Skål International Chennai Cares 2026 & Sports Day

The 2025–27 Skål International Chennai Board's vision is clear: not doing different things, but doing things differently. From innovative meeting formats to refreshing event experiences, we continue to redefine how Skål International Chennai # 205 comes together.

This year’s Skål International Chennai Sports Day was not different, we moved away from flashy beach resorts to a more sports-centric facility at FC Madras Football Academy. We merged high-energy fun with philanthropy through our annual CSR initiative, Skål Cares – 2026 into a one day event.

The day began with an Aquatic Zumba session with Swetha this was the highlight of the morning, drawing even the backbenchers for a lively session. While our members attended Skål Cares 2026, children and families enjoyed Frisbee, Pickleball, and Badminton, your team kept everyone engaged and entertained. Lunch experience was elevated with a live band by Ms. Vajiha Anwar and her team from Social Spirit. Their selection of multilingual songs, vibrant energy, and youthful spirit captivated the audience. The band already has earned a loyal fan base within Skål International Chennai.

Traditionally over the years Skål Cares supported schools, orphanages, old-age homes, and children's welfare. This year, we turned our compassion towards man's best friend – dogs.

Mrs. Maneka Gandhi, chairs a pan India NGO named People for Animals Trust (PFA) it is India's largest Non-Governmental Animal Welfare Organization with a nationwide network of 26 hospitals, 165 units, 60 mobile units, and 2.5 Lakh members. They work to rescue and rehabilitate sick, needy animals. They set up and run shelters, ambulance services, sterilization programs, treatment camps and disaster rescue missions for animals. They conduct education programs in schools, fight cases in court, and lobby on animal issues in parliament. PFA aims to set up an animal welfare centre in each of the nation's 600 districts.
What started as a casual conversation between Skål International Chennai Past President Venkat Reddy and Mrs. Maneka Gandhi at Skål International National Congress Mumbai in September 2025. She sought support from Skål International Chennai # 205 for their unit in Tambaram.

People for Animals (PFA) Tambaram has pioneered a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, converting unused public space under the MCC Tambaram flyover into a public-private funded animal hospital and shelter. This innovative model saves construction costs while creating a sustainable welfare centre.

We had in stock 50 vouchers which went under the hammer for bidding during "Skål Cares 2026".  Thanks to the generosity of our members, 17 members actively contributed through auction of stay and meal vouchers from India and abroad. We raised ₹. 2,67,000 from auctioning vouchers. Additional contributions are coming from our members. The total contribution as on date stands at ₹. 3,00,000. Gratitude to all our members who opened their hearts and wallets for our furry friends. We plan to hand over the proceeds to People for Animals (PFA) Tambaram at a small valedictory function at a later date.

We thank the board members for their support and the venue host FC Madras for their fabulous efforts. The ODC team went the extra mile in serving freshly cooked yummy food and flawless execution, our gratitude goes out to the staff who tirelessly worked behind the scenes for making us feel valued and at home.

Let's continue our journey with passion, commitment, and purpose of making Skål International Chennai # 205 not just a merry making club, but a community that cares.
